According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved two semi trucks. Troopers say a wheel on one of the trucks broke loose and rolled into the path of the second truck. That semi hit the tire, which caused the driver to lose control and crash into a concrete barrier wall and a pillar for the overpass to U.S. 301.

A Graceville man was seriously injured in a tanker truck accident. The resulting fuel spill closed a Holmes County road for several hours Tuesday night. Michael Dodson, 42, was driving a loaded fuel tanker north on County Road 173 around 9 p.m. in northern Holmes County when the rig failed to negotiate a sweeping curve in the road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A truck driven by Joe Craig, of Baltimore, was parked along the shoulder of the road. Craig had stopped to look at a map when another truck lost control, clipped the front of his truck, and tumbled down a 30-foot embankment. The truck took off about 200 feet of guard rail before rolling down the hill.

Tough New Braking Rules For Large Trucks Will Save Hundreds of Lives Annually

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today issued stringent new braking standards that will save lives by improving large truck stopping distance by 30 percent. NHTSA estimates that the new braking requirement will save 227 lives annually, and will also prevent 300 serious injuries. It is estimated to reduce property damage costs by over $169 million annually.
